We absolutely love the power of chance encounters but sometimes even chance could use a little nudge. Dewdropz allows you to do more than just random pairing, you can choose how employees get paired through our matching rules. Instead of the default "Random" matching, you can now choose to match employees within specific groups or across groups.

Note: this is only available in paid plans.

To access the Matching Rules feature, follow these steps:

  1. Log in to your account on our Console as an Superuser.

  2. Go to the "Pairings" page.

  3. Click on the "Matching Rules" tab.

Once you're on the Matching Rules tab, you'll see three options for how to match employees:

  • Random: This is the default matching rule and will randomly match employees. It is based on some criteria so it's not completely random but the idea here is that you don't have control and you leave it up to the system to figure out.

  • Within-group: This option allows you to match employees only within specific groups. This can be helpful if you want to encourage conversations between employees where there is a matching characteristic, such as when they are in the same time zone or have the same language.

  • Cross-group: This option allows you to match employees across different groups. This can be helpful if you want to encourage cross-functional collaboration between departments or office locations.

How does the app know what criteria to use for these settings?

When you choose one of these custom matching rules, you are asked to create Groups. If you've created Groups before, you can modify them or keep them the same.

Groups

Groups are a way to define subsets, categories or labels that will apply to people so that you can then segment for matching. Unlike trying to use values from Teams(which isn't always up-to-date or available), you can define the groups in any way that makes sense for you. This gives you the most flexibility. See examples below:

Time zone

Pacific standard time

Eastern standard time

Office location

Dubai

Australia

Department

Engineering

Sales

Role

Mentor

Everyone else

Organisation

Company A

Acquisition B

Acquisition C

When creating/updating groups, you can choose whether you want people to choose their own group. This will send out a message to everyone in the channel to choose the group they feel is the best fit. Doing this will prevent you from having to maintain lists or use cumbersome CSV files that have to be exported, imported, mapped....we want to make life easier for you, not harder. You will still be able to manually assign employees to a group under the members tab of pairing.

You can also disable this feature so that no messages go out when you create/update groups. This might be useful when the choice of the group is not up to the individual. Such as a Mentors vs new joiners scenario.

To choose a matching rule, simply select the desired option and ensure you have the groups you want to apply, then save your changes. The new rule will take effect for the next pairing event. You can always change your choice of matching if you would like to but there can only be one type of matching rule in place.

If you have any questions or issues with the Matching Rules feature, please contact our support team for assistance.

We hope this feature helps you create more meaningful connections in a way that makes sense for your company. Happy pairing!
